Description

Series Overview: The census is a cornerstone of our democracy. Every decade we perform a count of where our nation’s population resides, with the goal of equitably allocating representation and resources. The 2020 census will be the first time an internet response protocol will be used. What role can we play in our classrooms to effectively engage our students with the census, the internet questionnaires and the issues surrounding undercounting?

During this 3-part series we will review how the 2020 census works, its logistics and challenges. We will cover strategies for integrating census work into your organizations and classrooms by adapting generic census materials to build an ESOL, ABE-HSE, and technology focus into curriculum and instruction. Each of the 3 sessions has a particular focus. Session 1 of the series will have a technology focus, session 2 ESOL, and the last session will be dedicated to ABE-HSE. Participants are encouraged to register for the session(s) appropriate to their instructional offerings.
